Course Description: An organized and logical study of the use of undefined terms, definitions, postulates, and theorems. This class will be an in-depth study of concepts of geometry.

Course Description: (Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II & Pre Calculus) - This course introduces the basic concepts of calculus, including the definition and application of derivative to polynomial, trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Related rates, the fundamental theorem of calculus, and graphics applications are also introduced.

Course Description: Students will complete a research paper using the MLA (Modern Language Association) format. This will include choosing a topic, forming a thesis statement, researching the topic, creating an outline, and writing a research paper using in-text citation. Students will also analyze four literary works covering various genres including English and American literature, an epic poem, and historical fiction. Vocabulary building exercises are included during the entire class but spelling and grammar are not on academic focus.

Course Description: (Prerequisite: Algebra I & II) - This is a physical science course that gives high school students a foundation in Chemistry. Students must have completed Algebra I and it is recommended that they be taking Algebra II while taking this course. A scientific calculator is required.

9-12 World History

Course Description: This class will build a solid foundation of ancient history, tracing man’s history back to the Garden of Eden.  It will give a fine presentation of neglected Asian and African cultures in a unique ancient-to-modern style, helping the students to recognize other peoples and cultures.  An in-depth study of the Greco-Roman culture lays the ground work for an exciting study on medieval history.  Students will be brought to the doorstep of current history and world events in light of God’s master plan.

9-12 Spanish I

Course Description: This course is designed for students with no prior Spanish language background. Basic vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and writing are implemented throughout the course.  An annual project will be given to the students to enhance geographical and cultural aspects of the Spanish speaking countries. Homework, quizzes and games will play an important role in the Spanish development skills.  A workbook will be used for homework to practice writing skills and reinforce vocabulary and language concepts.

10-12 Spanish II

Course Description: This is a challenging Spanish course, with the majority of the instructions and reading in Spanish. We will continue studying vocabulary and grammar and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. It is a self-paced and demanding course. We will complete ten chapters during the school year. The class includes video grammar lessons and interactive online games to improve the students' understanding of Spanish.

Grace Weekly Highlights

School Closed
Grace Academy is closed Tues., 2/7 due to a sewage problem. We were just notified by the Town of Matthews. We plan to be back in school on Wed. Please check our website to make sure.

Common Ground
Common Ground is for 7th - 12th grade students and meets each Thursday for a time of fellowship, games, and worship. Common Ground meets at 3645 Pleasant Plains Road, Matthews. The next Common Ground will be Thurs., 2/9 at 7:00 p.m.

Information Meeting
If you know of anyone interested in attending Grace Academy for the 2012-13 School Year, there will be an Information Meeting Tues., 2/7 @ 7:00 p.m. at the Grace Center, 3645 Pleasant Plains Road, Matthews.
