This is a studio course emphasizing improvement on perception skills as well as drawing and painting skills used in two dimensional art. The elements and principles of design will be stressed in various projects. The projects are structured around drawing, painting, and printmaking and mixed media units. Well-known artists and their works are studied with each unit. Students will also learn and practice the formal steps of critique. A sketchbook will be kept throughout the year. Students will be required to research and deliver a presentation on an artist of their choice, approved by teacher.

Supplies: 100-page spiral bound sketchbook (suitable for wet an dry work, 2 black sharpies (one fine and one medium), two #2 pencils (no mechanical), one handheld sharpener, assortment of drawing pencils (F, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B for example), one eraser (white, pink or gum), 1 roll of 1.41 inch 3M Brand Blue Painter’s Tape Optional: Your own set of prism colored pencils and variety of paintbrushes.
