Fees will be totaled per family and included in your Family Folder at Orientation. Fees will be due the first week of school payable to Grace Academy.

The following courses are 9th through 12th grade level unless otherwise noted.

Advanced Functions/Modeling Honors (Grades 11-12) (4 Day) (Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Grace Academy Issued Placement Test) – This course is to lay the groundwork for further study of mathematics at a college level. Standard Pre-calculus topics (Algebra III and Trigonometry) are presented.  The difference with this course is that the basic concepts of Algebra II are reviewed at a slower pace and with more depth in order to achieve the firm foundation in Algebra that is necessary for success in college-level mathematics. Basic Trigonometry concepts will be covered as well.  Students who would like to strengthen their Algebra II skills are able to take this class and can then follow with the Pre-Calculus course.  Examples, exercises, and group activities provide a real-life context to help students grasp mathematical concepts.

Algebra I (Grades 9-10) (4 Day) – This is a concentrated course which will involve the mastery of various math concepts including operations with real numbers, solving equations and inequalities, polynomials, exponential operations, factoring, functions, systems of equations and inequalities, scatter plots, linear equations, and quadratic equations.

Algebra I Honors (Grades 9-10) (4 Day) – This is a more in-depth concentrated course which will involve the mastery concepts including operations with real numbers, solving equations and inequalities, polynomials, exponential operations, factoring, functions, systems of equations and inequalities, scatter plots, linear equations, and quadratic equations. Using primary source documents, we will analyze historical themes, compare and contrast historical events, and learn to think critically about the past. We will start our journey with Reconstruction and end with Desert Storm and the Middle East exploring how the past has forged the America of today.

3D Art – This is a studio course emphasizing experimentation of form and space in three dimensions. The elements and principles of design will be stressed in all projects. Projects will focus on creating sculptures using different types of materials such as: clay, wire, paper mache, plaster and recyclables. We will discuss well-known artists with each project. Sketches will be required in preparation for projects. Students will learn to complete projects that start with an initial idea, complete mockups and final assembly. We will also complete the process of ceramics from forming clay to firing and glazing. Students will be required to research and deliver a presentation on an artist of their choice, approved by teacher.

Art (Grades 8-9) – This class is for 8th and 9th grade students who are ready to develop and expand their own artistic style through the exploration of different art processes and mediums. Units of study will include: painting, drawing, clay building, collage, and Art History. The focus will be on quality not quantity of work. Students will be required to keep a sketchbook/journal, and to research and deliver a presentation on an Artist of their choice approved by the teacher. Students will receive a high school fine arts credit for this class. Students must have completed 6-8 Art I, II or equivalent.

Art Foundations – This is a studio course emphasizing improvement on perception skills as well as drawing and painting skills used in two dimensional art. The elements and principles of design will be stressed in various projects. The projects are structured around drawing, painting, and printmaking and mixed media units. Well-known artists and their works are studied with each unit. Students will also learn and practice the formal steps of critique. A sketchbook will be kept throughout the year. Students will be required to research and deliver a presentation on an artist of their choice, approved by teacher.

Biology (Grades 9-10) – This course provides a detailed introduction to the concepts, methods, and application of general biology. Emphasis is placed on practical understanding of the vocabulary of biology.  It provides the student with a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. This course includes laboratories and dissections.

Biology Honors (Grades 9-10) – This class is a college-prep introductory study of life according to God’s wonderful creation. In this honors course, students will study the five kingdoms of organisms, cellular structure and functions, Mendelian genetics, evolution, and molecular biology. Class time will be used for application of Biological concepts students have studied at home including laboratory work with microscopes and animal dissections. Additional projects and research papers will be used to do in-depth studies of various concepts. All students will be required to develop and conduct a scientific project for the Science Fair.

Character Development – Every person develops in one way or another, but few people develop into the moral, loving, disciplined Christians who honor God with their lives. This energetic, discussion-based class seeks to answer the question: “How can I be the man/woman God intends me to be?” This class blurs the line between Christian Ethics and spiritual formation, and will involve deep reflection and soul searching! Students will study topics such as integrity, moral virtue, discipline, and ethics, all from the framework of a Christian worldview.

Students will learn about the chemical make-up of their world through laboratory experiments, hands-on instruction, and problem-solving skills. This course is more in depth than the standard course and will include class tests and in class exercises. This course will benefit students who are interested in pursuing a career in the math/science field, as it is a more extensive coverage of the Chemistry curriculum. Community Relations/Missions – How can we, as Christians, share our faith in the diverse, fast-paced culture of today’s world? In a nation where people are becoming increasingly skeptical of religion and hostile toward Christianity, how can we fulfill our mission of being the salt of the earth? Community Relations/Missions is hands-on/discussion-based class, dedicated to answering these questions. To accomplish our goals we will study the history of Christian missions, explore both discipleship and evangelism, and serve together in various capacities. Come to class with open hearts and open minds as we face these challenges together! Note: Service projects are a required part of this class.

Computer Graphic Arts – Students will learn design techniques, how to find creativity, and express themselves through the use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, & Indesign. They will create logos, brochures, CD covers and more.

Drama – Students are introduced to the basics of theater. This includes theatre vocabulary, the parts of the stage, blocking, basic acting techniques and script evaluation. Students train in exercises to develop concentration, imagination and life observation. Improvisations will encourage physical freedom and a sense of truth. Using scenes and monologues, students will explore the rehearsal process from both the actor’s and director’s point of view. They will experience exercises and practices intended to increase their effectiveness. Students will receive coaching as actors both in the drama classroom and on the stage.

Earth/Physical Science (Grades 9-10) – Students will discover and explore topics such as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, weather, and structure of the earth, environmentalism, the physics of motion, Newton’s Laws, gravity and astrophysics through a lab and project approach.

Earth/Physical Science Honors (Grades 9-10) – Students will discover and explore topics such as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, weather, structure of the earth, environmentalism, the physics of motion, Newton’s Laws, gravity and astrophysics through a lab and project approach. Engineering Fundamentals – This course will seek to help students explore and understand the basic concepts of different types of engineering. Each quarter students will be introduced to topics in structural, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering. Some specific components will include bridge and truss designs, reading blueprints, small engine concepts, HVAC, road design, topographical/contour maps, hydroelectricity, and electrical currents. This is a hands-on, lab and project driven class where students will engage with the material.

English I (Grades 9-10) – This course focuses on both grammar and literature. Students will review capitalization and punctuation rules, as well as, grammatical structures that are necessary for composing sentences, paragraphs, and essays. Essentials of College Math (Grades 11-12) (4 Day) (Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Grace Academy Issued Placement Test) This course is designed to build upon knowledge gained in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. It emphasizes understanding of math concepts rather than just memorizing procedures. Students learn the context behind the procedure: why to use a certain formula or method to solve a problem, for example. This equips them with higher-order thinking to apply math skills, functions and concepts in different situations. The goal of the class is to help prepare students for material that they will see in college level math courses.

Fashion Design/Interior Design – This course will study interior design first semester and fashion design second semester. will cover space planning, space function, interior elevation, color, and furniture. In fashion design we will cover personal style, trends and styles, accessories, sketching, runway, and fashion designers. This is course is project base.

Forensic Science (Grades 9-12) (Prerequisite: Physical Science and may be taken with Biology) – This course is designed to introduce the student to the use of various scientific methods and approaches used to solve crimes occurring in the world around us. Students will be exposed to strengths and limitations associated with various testing methods. Case studies will be used to teach the students new problem-solving skills. The class will be primarily hands on and experiment driven. Upon completion of this course, students should have a new appreciation for the complexity of crime scene investigation.

Music/Worship Team I (Grades 8-12) – This is an introduction to worship class with emphasis on developing creative and technical skills in the musical production of contemporary worship. Students will learn to perform worship songs in a band format. Students will also learn about general audio sound reinforcement and applications. The music/worship team band will participate in chapel services once a month.

Photography I – This class is designed for students who have no prior photography experience. Students will learn the basic function of the camera such as camera parts, digital and film terminology, composition and framing. Photography assignments will take place at school, at home and on location. There will be in class discussions and critiques on all projects. All students will have projects included in the Night of the Arts. This class is similar to Photography II, however photography assignments will differ.

Practical Life Skills – This course introduces and teaches skills needed to help keep a student’s world functioning properly. Students will learn money management skills and topics such as budgeting, bill paying, reconciling checkbooks, understanding how to read a bank statement, savings and basic financial planning for the future. Students will fill out job application forms, write a resume, cover letter and go through a job interview. They will learn how to buy a car and rent an apartment. Social skills will be taught. Basic household chores, including laundry, will be covered in the class.

Pre-Calculus Honors (Grades 11-12) (4 day) (Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Grace Academy Issued Placement Test) – This course is designed to help students develop their proficiency in Algebra III and Trigonometry. Although the basic concepts of Algebra II are reviewed quickly in the class, a firm foundation in Algebra is necessary for success in college-level mathematics. Every opportunity to show how Algebra is a modern modeling language for real life problems will be explored. Psychology – This is an introductory psychology course. The goal for this study of psychology is to better understand God’s creation. Students will develop an understanding of psychology’s history and worldview from a Christian perspective. Students will study the brain, nervous system, sensation and perception, motivation and emotion, learning and memory, human development, consciousness, thinking, language, intelligence, personality, abnormal psychology, treatment, social psychology and research methods.

Understanding Your Faith (aka Apologetics 101) – As believers in Jesus Christ, we live in a culture that is increasingly misinformed about our faith. It is important for every young follower of Jesus Christ to understand the Gospel message and the basics of our faith in Christ, that relates to the world we live in and works in every day life. 1 Peter 3:15 says, “If someone asks you about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do it in a gentle and respectful way… They will see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.” In this course we will look at the Word of God (Bible) and the Gospel message and come to a better understanding of what we believe and why and be able to share it in an effective way with others answering some of the most common questions about the Christian faith.

Video/Media Editing – This is an introductory to video editing class with an emphasis on developing technical skills within computer software to express student creativity in application. Wise Finances – This course is designed to give the students a solid foundation in many topics of personal finance. The topics that will be covered include saving, budgeting, debt, insurance, consumer awareness, investing, giving, careers, taxes, and money and relationships. All of these topics are valuable in making wise decisions in the world of personal finance. The course will teach Biblical principles for each of these areas and lead the students to become wise with their own personal finances as they grow into adults.
