As we are well into a new year I found myself with some great expectations for this year! Even before the New Year began I had a sense of excitement about what God wanted to do, though I wasn’t sure what that might look like.
When you look around and see many of the things that are going wrong in our country and in our world right now, and there are plenty of reasons to be alarmed.
But at the end of the day, if you know and follow Jesus Christ, you realize the final outcome for everything was guaranteed 2000 years ago. When Jesus Christ went to the cross and rose from the dead conquering all of God’s enemies, He put those who believe in Him on the winning team! I love what the prophet Isaiah said hundreds of years ago:
“Arise shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See darkness covers the earth and thick darkness over all the peoples, but the
Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you!” Isaiah 60:1-2 (NIV)
Just when things are darkest on the earth, God’s people should be the brightest and making the most of the opportunities to let the light of Jesus really shine through them!
“The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter
and brighter until the full day.” Proverbs 4:18 (NIV)
With that in mind what kind of opportunities will God have for us all this year? I believe that He has a new agenda for those who are willing to say ‘yes’ to whatever He is asking us to do. But first we must take the time to determine what His will is.
I love this scripture in first John because it gives us encouragement about knowing God’s will:
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything
according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us
– whatever we ask – we know that we have what we have asked of him.”
I John 5:14-15 (NIV)
We can be more confident in our prayers and our relationship with God when we know what God’s will is and do it! So whatever you attempt to do this year, be sure to check in with God first about his will for you, and you can be sure that it
will bring about God’s very best for your life and others! That’s why Jesus said when you pray say; “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven!”
Lord Jesus, let that be so for all of our lives and families all this year! Amen!
